You may have heard the terms PEO, EOR, GEOR or International PEO. Despite the fact these terms are similar there are major differences. The PEO (Professional Employment Organization) service is well developed in the US. Both the client and PEO co-employ the employee, while PEO bears administrative and payroll responsibilities.
The International PEO provides a similar service, it takes care of the payroll, benefits, and employment in a foreign country, while you maintain full operational control. The worker is employed by International PEO only. That's a major difference.
If you want to expand your business to new markets or hire talents in countries where you don’t have subsidiaries you may consider using International PEO or Employer of Record services.
But what’s the difference between these two? There is no difference. These are just two terms used to describe the same service. International PEO is more common in the US and EOR is well known in Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America.
Both companies use their local infrastructure to employ clients’ candidates, take them on payroll, file taxes, provide compensations and benefits, reimburse expenses, and guarantee 100% compliance in accordance with the local laws.
